About this role

The Public Cloud Engineering organization provides the foundational platforms, services, and guardrails enabling Bloomberg's use of public cloud technologies. Our teams build capabilities that allow engineering organizations to safely and efficiently develop, deploy, and operate solutions across public cloud environments. This role is central to Bloomberg's cloud strategy.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will join a team focused on one or more technical domains such as Cloud Adoption & Governance, Compute Platforms, or Networking. Your day-to-day work involves building cloud compute foundations, runtime standards, and platform integrations, as well as contributing to governance automation and runtime security.

Engineers within Public Cloud Engineering collaborate closely to deliver a cohesive cloud experience for Bloomberg's engineering community. The organization is growing, and you will work alongside experts in security, governance, identity, networking, observability, deployment, and compute. This collaborative environment fosters innovation and shared ownership of the cloud platform.

This role offers the opportunity to shape the foundational cloud platforms that power Bloomberg's global financial data and analytics. You will influence the direction of public cloud adoption, governance, and platform experience across the organization. As the team continues to grow, there are opportunities to take on leadership in specific platform domains.

Requirements

  • Strong software engineering skills with experience building and maintaining large-scale distributed systems.
  • Deep understanding of public cloud platforms and their core services (compute, networking, storage, identity).
  • Experience with infrastructure as code and automation tools.
  • Proficiency in a modern programming language.
  • Knowledge of cloud security best practices, including identity and access management, secrets management, and runtime security.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
  • Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools.
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple platform teams to deliver cohesive cloud experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain foundational platforms, services, and guardrails for public cloud technologies.
  • Develop capabilities for safe and efficient development, deployment, and operation of solutions across public cloud environments.
  • Contribute to cloud compute foundations, runtime standards, and platform integrations.
  • Implement governance automation and runtime security posture management.
  • Design and manage cloud networking APIs, hybrid connectivity, and network automation.
  • Create developer workflows, infrastructure pipelines, and unified cloud APIs.
  • Establish telemetry standards, reliability engineering, and operational readiness.
  • Collaborate with other platform teams to deliver a cohesive cloud experience.
