About this role

Xometry is seeking an exceptional Principal Data Scientist to join our Generative AI team, driving the future of AI-powered manufacturing. This role will advance machine learning and generative AI capabilities, focusing on fine-tuning generative and language models, multimodal document understanding, and structured data extraction.

You will own an 18-24 month technical roadmap, balancing innovation with disciplined business value delivery. Day-to-day work involves developing and deploying generative AI models for multimodal document processing, extracting structured data from technical drawings and purchasing orders, and leading the exploration of text and image-based data processing solutions.

As a key technical leader, you will set the long-term scientific direction for AI-driven solutions and serve as the technical architect for the embedded DFM AI + IQE track with Siemens. This includes integrating Xometry's proprietary AI directly into the Siemens ecosystem, operating on native 3D geometry to enable real-time manufacturability feedback and pricing.

You will influence the roadmaps of partner engineering, product, and business teams while mentoring scientists and championing better approaches across functions. This role offers the opportunity to shape high-stakes strategic initiatives and drive impactful applications that enhance Xometry's service offerings.

Responsibilities

  • Own and drive an 18-24 month technical roadmap that balances innovation with disciplined business value delivery
  • Develop and deploy generative AI models and large language models for multimodal document processing
  • Lead the exploration and development of innovative text and image-based data processing solutions, including training and fine-tuning generative and language models
  • Provide technical leadership to the Generative AI team, setting technical direction and defining best practices
  • Serve as the technical architect for the embedded DFM AI + IQE track, integrating Xometry's proprietary AI into the Siemens ecosystem
  • Design and implement efficient workflows for data preparation, cleaning, and augmentation to support generative AI model training
  • Utilize cloud platforms for large-scale data processing, model training, and deployment
  • Serve as a respected subject matter expert and mentor to scientists
