Tenable is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our VM Platform team, which sits at the center of our Tenable One architecture. This team ingests massive volumes of asset and finding data from collection teams and processes it to calculate the state of the world for customers. We are not just building web apps; we are solving a complex Big Data problem.
You will build and maintain high-throughput event-driven pipelines responsible for processing the history of assets and vulnerabilities. You will design logic that collapses millions of incoming findings into a single accurate state record, ensuring data accuracy and real-time availability. Your work will unblock integrations across the entire company.

This role offers the opportunity to build the future of Tenable's flagship Exposure Management platform. You will solve complex data problems and architect for scale, owning your stack from deployment to monitoring with Terraform and Datadog. Requirements
- 4+ years of Backend Engineering experience with a focus on high-volume data processing or distributed systems.
- Deep experience with Java or Kotlin, including understanding of JVM memory management and performance.
- Proven experience with stream processing architecture such as Kafka or AWS Kinesis.
- Experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform and monitoring tools like Datadog.
- Ability to commute to Columbia, MD/Northern VA, Boston, MA, or currently reside in San Francisco Bay Area for remote option.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship (no work visa sponsorship available).
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain the high-throughput event-driven pipelines responsible for processing the history of assets and vulnerabilities.
- Design logic that collapses millions of incoming findings into a single accurate state record.
- Transition systems to a new architecture designed to be faster, cheaper, and more reliable.
- Use Terraform and Datadog to deploy, monitor, and ensure the health of services in production.
- Feed processed data to downstream search and reporting products.
- Solve complex Big Data problems beyond simple CRUD operations.
- Ensure data accuracy and real-time availability for asset vulnerability status.
- Unblock integrations across the entire company.
